At St. Michael School, the focus has always been developing the whole child. We offer an excellent academic education grounded in basic Christian values consisting of reading, writing, spelling, phonics, mathematics, social studies, science, computers, religion, health, and citizenship.
We have a fully equipped Science Lab, and newly renovated Art and Music rooms. We have a new Diocese-wide math curriculum, greatly enhanced our program in all grades. Our extensive library continues to grow. The accelerated reading program encourages the love of literature, starting in third grade.
Early Literacy Development St. Michael School is among more than 4,700 schools nationally that has implemented an assessment technology tool called Dynamic Indicators of Early Literacy Skills (DIBELS). This innovative state of the art assessment program was piloted in our kindergarten classes and is now being used through the third grade. The assessment measures early literacy development and pinpoints students’ skills in relation to research-based benchmark goals and to monitor their progress over time. Enrichment Program The focus of the enrichment program is to take the knowledge the student(s) possesses to the “next level.” The program is meant to encourage students to develop critical thinking skills. This includes cognitive, affective, and creative domains. Lessons are presented to stimulate creative thinking, problem solving, and to encourage good cooperative and communication skills. Emphasis of the program is placed on valuing, respecting others and their opinions, and appreciating their talents and the talents of others. Foreign Language All second through sixth grade students study Spanish as a foreign language. The goal of the program is to introduce students to the Spanish language and culture in a fun and exciting way. Students in seventh and eighth grades participate in the Rosetta Stone program which enables them to learn multiple foreign languages.
